d'après Les Années d'Annie Ernaux

.

WHO IS THE WOMAN IN THE PHOTO? Annie Ernaux, constantly transformed by the ages and eras, from World War II to today, she can be glimpsed through carefully preserved memories. The woman in the photo is both a modest child from Normandy, a teenager marked by boredom and shame, a young wife becoming bourgeois, and also a frozen woman and a lover chasing after her long-repressed desire. Behind these many faces unfolds the portrait of a woman searching for her place among men in a society in constant change. And since she is always where she's least expected, the woman in the photo will be embodied here through four voices of a new generation; a way of linking the past to the present. The woman in the photo could be your mother, your daughter, your boyfriend, the lady from room 12, or your neighbor sitting next to you. It could even be you.

REPRISE 2024 / Adaptation and distribution of the bifrontal version

Following the recognition of Annie Ernaux (Nobel Prize in Literature 2022) and because this show was created in the midst of the health crisis, we wish to give it renewed visibility, relaunching its distribution four years after its creation. In this bifrontal format, there is only the text, a few floor lamps, four neon light bars, the actors, and the sound universe. The speech is directed at the audience to include them at the heart of the story, making them silently and fleetingly become Annie Ernaux. The mere presence of individuals gathered in the performance space creates multiple situations to represent this intimate memory merged with the crowd. In this sense, it is also a "versatile" version, technically adapted for decentralized distribution.

This creation is part of the "Save the Date!" creation cycle. It can be accompanied by small satellite forms in distribution, Les Instantanés, and shared & in-situ creation projects.
